He stumbled up the stairs; she laid silently. It's the third time this week he crept home late. And when he drifted off, she got out of bed to look for answers, she couldn't wait. She found a torn receipt in the pocket of his jeans from earlier that day, for a sixty minute stay in Room 17.
The Matador Motel right off the interstate. He put the car in park and stared straight. The man behind the desk, behind the magazine, handed her the key to Room 17.
Was he in love or bored, or something in between, was she pretty, was she paid for her time in Room 17?
It smelled of aftershave and pine scent clean, lipstick on the sheets of Room 17. Was he in love or bored, or something in between, was she pretty lying there in Room 17?
